Outreach program

home therapy and registration of new children

Our teams visit children at home to provide therapy, deliver assistive devices, and reach new families. This way, assistance is also provided in remote villages. We do this in collaboration with schools and village elders.

Information about the program

The Outreach Team, consisting of a social worker, physiotherapist, and driver, visits children weekly for home therapy. They also provide advice on optimal living conditions and supply children with assistive devices such as adapted chairs and wheelchairs. The team often focuses on single mothers living in modest circumstances. The children’s progress is monitored by the team. Additionally, the team seeks to identify new children in need of assistance by visiting schools and village elders. In Tanzania, there is no child health clinic like in the Netherlands, so the team informs parents about the support Sibusiso offers. They play a crucial role in breaking down taboos and ensuring that children with disabilities are accepted by the community.

The most rewarding part of my work is the interaction with parents. Every week, our Outreach team visits the children at their homes. It is very special to hear their personal stories when I am in their homes. I can usually help them with the dilemmas they face. I still find it difficult that there is a taboo, that children with disabilities are seen as a punishment from God and therefore cannot participate in community life. However, I see improvements every day, that the children are truly making progress through our help.
