6-month program

for young adults (aged 13-27)

Young people learn basic life skills, from cooking to gardening, from numeracy and language to social interaction. We guide them towards independence, potentially towards employment or starting their own business.

Information about the program

Children and young adults with disabilities participate in a 6-month program, staying at the center during the week and returning home on weekends. They learn practical skills such as washing, fetching water, chopping wood, caring for livestock, and growing vegetables. Additionally, they receive social skills training, education in small classrooms, and participate in sports and games, with attention to their individual circumstances. Thanks to the practical approach and guidance, they are better prepared for an independent future, even in an environment where primarily low-skilled work is available.

What I enjoy most about my work is telling short stories, riddles, and Swahili expressions to stimulate children’s language development. Many children have difficulty pronouncing words, so I tell stories and teach them how to pronounce the words from the stories. It moves me when young adults from the program succeed in getting a real job, as recently happened with Meshack, and now again with 6 young adults whom we are preparing for employment. And sometimes they even manage to start their own (small) business.
