25 Years of Sibusiso

This post is also available in: Dutch German Swahili

A movement of hope and change. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year. Sibusiso was founded in 2000 by Atty and Henk Hammer-Roos, both with years of experience in development work in Africa. In collaboration with the local population, they began their mission from a simple guesthouse – Sibusiso has since grown into a professional center with space for over 80 children per week and a large reach in the region. We help approximately 960 children annually in our center. Most of these children participate in the 7-week program. There are also 120 older children annually who are offered the 6-month internal program. Each child receives a personalized therapy plan tailored to his or her needs.

We are proud of the center; it looks today just as it was built 25 years ago. A place that provides safety and ensures a movement of hope and change.

Investing in our organization

Sometimes it is necessary to evaluate our own organization as well. For instance, the organization of automation and IT requires attention. For this reason, Gabry Vlot visited Arusha to advise us in this area.

A mobile clinic truck for Sibusiso

Many children with disabilities do not receive the care they need because the center is too far away, there is no transport, or there are no funds. That is why Sibusiso visits villages with a mobile clinic. Join the fundraising campaign for a mobile clinic truck for Sibusiso. By doing so, you help set this essential care in motion!

Sharing knowledge about treatment methods

Rehabilitation physician in training, Elian König, spent two months working alongside the therapists in Arusha. She is researching how the quality of care at the center can be further improved.

The programs

In the center, carpenters and physiotherapists custom-make assistive devices such as wheelchairs and chairs, improving children’s therapy and mobility.
Sibusiso shares knowledge through theme days, sports, play and celebrations. Families, care providers and governments learn and celebrate together with the children.
Sibusiso shares 25 years of knowledge through a new knowledge center with training and education to increase understanding and acceptance of children with disabilities.
