Martha’s visit to the Netherlands

This post is also available in: Dutch German Swahili

During the warm days of June, Martha Lukasi, director of the Sibusiso center in Arusha, visited the Netherlands. She met with sponsors, partners, and the board to update them on developments within Sibusiso.

In addition to reflecting on the rehabilitation center’s impressive results, the focus was primarily on the future. Martha presented the Strategic Plan 2026-2030, which centers on a major ambition: reaching even more children with disabilities.

The rehabilitation center in Arusha remains the heart of Sibusiso. At the same time, a new step was taken this year with monthly visits from a mobile clinic. Therapists, social workers, and teachers travel to remote villages to support children and their families. This ensures that children who cannot come to the center also receive the care and guidance they need.

The mobile clinic has also proven to be an effective way to identify children at a very young age. By announcing the team’s visit to a village well in advance, local healthcare providers and village communities can refer parents of young children about whom there are concerns for an initial assessment. An evaluation takes place immediately during the clinic. Children in urgent need of intensive care are invited to the one-week intensive program. Other children are scheduled for the four-week rehabilitation program.

Furthermore, Sibusiso regularly collaborates with other specialized organizations at the mobile clinics. This allows families to access a broader range of expert support and care in a single location. Read the Strategic Plan on the website.

Martha’s ambition is great, but the need is even greater. Together with your support, we continue to work toward equal opportunities for all children. Read the Strategic Plan here.

Investing in our organization

Sometimes it is necessary to evaluate our own organization as well. For instance, the organization of automation and IT requires attention. For this reason, Gabry Vlot visited Arusha to advise us in this area.

A mobile clinic truck for Sibusiso

Many children with disabilities do not receive the care they need because the center is too far away, there is no transport, or there are no funds. That is why Sibusiso visits villages with a mobile clinic. Join the fundraising campaign for a mobile clinic truck for Sibusiso. By doing so, you help set this essential care in motion!

Sharing knowledge about treatment methods

Rehabilitation physician in training, Elian König, spent two months working alongside the therapists in Arusha. She is researching how the quality of care at the center can be further improved.
