25 Jaar Sibusiso

Next year, Sibusiso will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Where we then arranged everything for the children with disabilities from a backpackers hostel in Arusha, Sibusiso is now run from a professional and well-equipped center. Every year, hundreds of children and their families can visit the center and we visit many at home and/or at school.

Due to personal circumstances, it has been a while since Henk and I have been in Arusha; Traveling is not so easy for us at the moment. Nevertheless, we have a lot of contact and we know that the children and their families are in good hands with an expert team and a great Tanzanian board. We are incredibly proud that the project continues and develops even without our everyday involvement. We are not celebrating a grand anniversary next year, we are spending every penny, every Tanzanian shilling on the welfare of children with disabilities. We thank everyone for the donations – large or small – of the past years. We hope that we can count on you in the coming year as well. Henk and I, but also all employees, children and administrators in Arusha and in the Netherlands wish you a beautiful and pleasant Christmas and a healthy 2025!

Highlights 2024

We look back on a very nice year. The programs for the children in the center were optimally attended and carried out by a highly motivated and enthusiastic team in Arusha. We also celebrated a number of events, not only to celebrate the (small) successes but especially to ensure that children with disabilities belong, are accepted in their own environment with the involvement of many health workers, schools, students, government employees.  We show this in the overview of photos below.

A sustainable future

Our anniversary year will mainly be dominated by the continuation of our so successful project and also by the preparations for our new 5-year plan. In doing so, we will mainly focus on bringing Sibusiso even closer to the community and strengthening the cooperation with the villages, regional, local and national governments as well as the schools in the immediate vicinity. We would like to come back to this in more detail in our next newsletter. Ultimately, we would like that helping and supporting will eventually lead more and more to being able to help oneself as much as possible. Of course, this requires commitment, passion, time and money.
